The Tarot Garden is a private garden, designed by the French artist Niki de Saint Phalle, with the collaboration of many local artisans. It houses giant sculptures, completely covered with precious glass tiles, mirrors and ceramics, which represent the 22 cards of the Major Arcana.
You don't need the guide to visit it: everyone will find his own path, letting himself be inspired by the sensations of the moment.
The art
With the tarot garden, Niki de Saint Phalle, has realized the dream that few artists have had the privilege of implementing: to completely immerse themselves in their art to the point of "living" within their works. As Mondrian had transformed his Paris apartment into a gigantic painting, Niki lived in his work, made it his home. For the whole time of the realization of the garden he lived inside the empress. Even today the furnishings are an integral part of the enormous sculpture, a colorful apartment in which shapes and colors blend into the surrounding environment.
The predominant inspiration to the works of Gaudì is recognized in every small detail, but the influence of the forms of Matisse, Picasso, Kandinsky and Klee is also evident.
The mosaics that cover the figures were made with the TRECANDIS technique which consists in applying fragments of ceramic and glass, cut irregularly, fixed on white plaster.
The purpose of this technique is to succeed in giving life to constructions similar to living creatures.
