Magliano in Toscana rises in the heart of the Grosseto Maremma, a small town of Etruscan origins.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

History<\/h3>\n
\n\t

The origin of Magliano in Toscana is Etruscan (ancient Heba)<\/strong>, later it became a Roman municipality, maintaining the Etruscan name. In a pact signed by Uguccione of the Aldobrandeschi counts in 1097 for the first time Magliano<\/strong> was named indicated as the center of a court, perhaps already the seat of a castle.
\nThe historic center is very characteristic, surrounded by walls built between the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance period, one of the most complete fortifications in the Maremma. The walls that were built between the 13th and 15th centuries are opened by three doors: Porta Nuova, Porta San Martino and Porta San Giovanni. The walls have been restored in recent times and you can also walk along a section of the patrol walkway<\/strong>, with a breathtaking view that reaches the sea, a window on the Maremma Park which is partly a municipal area.<\/p>\n

Among the numerous archaeological areas, the Etruscan Necropolis stand out.
\nAt the moment the only visitable necropolis is that of S. Maria in Borraccia, discovered on a hill to the east of Magliano<\/strong>, dated to the end of the seventh beginning of the sixth century. B.C. The necropolis known since the end of the nineteenth century, was excavated only in the 70s and returned kits with abundant Etruscan pottery from the central-northern and southern areas (bucchero, impasto olives, Etruscan Corinthian pottery), but also amphorae and imported Greek ceramics. But the most important discovery occurred in 1883, when a lenticular lead was found of the fifth century BC, which was nicknamed the \"Magliano lead\", currently preserved in the Archaeological Museum of Florence, which was fundamental for the coding of the ancient Etruscan language.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

What you can see<\/h3>\n

Around Magliano, along Via Garibaldi, one comes across the thirteenth century Palazzo of Checco il Bello<\/strong>, with a Gothic facade. This is the name of one of his inhabitants, Checco il Bello, a certain Francesco Salvi, who lived here in the early 1900s, known both for his aesthetic qualities and for the fame of Casanova, hence the name with which he building is known today.<\/p>\n

Just outside the walls of the village the witch's olive tree<\/a>, a gigantic specimen that seems to have even 3500 years old. It was planted in the Etruscan age. Popular stories and legends consider it magical because it is capable of growing beans on its foliage.<\/p>\n

The Abbey of San Bruzio<\/strong> is located a few kilometers from the village, near the cemetery. Surrounded by fields planted with olive trees and wheat, the remains of what used to be a florid and imposing abbey stand out, built around the year 1000 by Benedictine monks.

\nIn the most famous it is said that among these ruins the Destiny goes to satisfy the souls of the supplicants<\/strong>, but it is not easy to meet him and it seems that it stops only in the presence of a pure and generous heart.<\/p>\n

Legend has it that one day a young woman in love went to pray to Destiny to save the life of the man she loved. The wish came true, but after a while the woman returned to give him her life because that man no longer needed her. She was satisfied, but it is said that on certain nights the shadow of the remorseful young man returns to cry at the monastery in search of Destiny, with the plea to get her beloved back. In vain, because the Destiny of St. Bruzio does not help impure hearts, much less those who cry over evil done.<\/strong><\/p>\n

But others are also the sad facts that see him as the protagonist. In fact, it is said that the nuns came here to give birth, possibly being raped or perhaps involved in clandestine relations with several men. This was the only place where, after having kept the pregnancy hidden under large tunics, no one would have heard the screams of labor.<\/strong>
\nSome left the child to the care of discreet families who would have kept the uncomfortable secret, other nuns furious or frightened by that ominous destiny left it there. This is why in some moments it is even possible to hear the souls of those new-born babies who cry forever because no one ever wanted them. Some claim to have seen the face of a child in the shadows of the temple and others have heard the call often confused with the wind, a cold air that shakes the body and soul.<\/p>\n

The atmosphere that surrounds San Bruzio is really \"special\".
